Bristol Rovers and Bristol City open top bus parade.

I’m not a football fan but I’ve always envied my friends who were. It seemed to give them a social key that unlocked a door to an easy male camaraderie with their fellow football supporters. An in-depth conversation with a perfect stranger, about the state of the football league, could be easily sparked up, whether at a bus stop, pub, post office or even urinal line up. Of course this all depends on the circumstances. A gloating rival winning fan trying to engage with a supporter of the losing side may find a fist in their face instead of some jovial banter.

Luckily for me I had the pleasure to photograph some very happy fans from both Bristol City FC and Bristol Rovers FC as they paraded in open top buses on consecutive Bank Holidays. Always nice to be on the winning side.
